Information About Prostate Cancer

PROSTATE CANCER is the most common cancer to affect men in the UK. Men over the age of 50 are most likely to develop the condition and the chances of it occurring increase further with age.
There are currently about 35,000 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed every year, that is approximately one every 15 minutes.
Current statistics suggest that about 30% of those cases diagnosed will lead to death from the condition or from complications caused by it but, as with all cancers early detection can lead to cures.

SCREENING? At the moment the UK health service does not carry out screening of the population. They have concerns about the affordability of such a programme and the pressure it will put on current resources. There is also a debate about the true benefits of a national screening programme as not all forms of prostate cancer are killers.
